Hi All!

I got a good job offer I am really considering taking it. My SO is in between jobs right now so it's perfect timing. I will go from 77K to 92K. But in terms of career advancement,it's a great challenge I am excited to take. My SO is in the technology/software engineering field (so opportunity for future employment is important). The Job will be in West Chester, PA.. I need a car for work, however I also need access to public transportation for my wife to commute to center city or wherever the jobs are at. Or wherever the nightlife is at. We're looking at a budget of 1.5K (we'll be renting at first)

I saw some good posts about the Main Line area, I don't mind to have to drive 1 hour to my job site if my wife is happy and well accommodated, mostly because I will be travelling a lot. She's always been a city person so she needs to be able to get out, hop on a train/bus to wherever there's nightlife, when she feels trapped.

Thank you in advance!!!!!!

When are you moving? July 5
Where are you coming from? NYC
Why are you moving?New Job
Where will you be working?West Chester
Have you been here yet? Only for the interviews

Will you buy or rent? Rent
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? No preference, but would like to finally have a dog, and some more space!

Do you have a preference of living in a NJ or PA suburb? PA
(If you answered NJ - post your answers here: //www.city-data.com/forum/philadelphia/new-j...-philadelphia/)

Are you married or single? Do you have children? Married no Children
Do you have pets? no, but plan on having dog(s)
Do you want or need a yard? I would love to
Are you keeping a car? I will have one but my SO doesn't, so it would be perfect if there is some sort of public transportation to the city center
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? Calm and quiet with very close access to bustling activity

What do you want to be closest to? All
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Train or subway stations

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? Yes

Coke or Pepsi? COKE!

I suggest, in order of distance from your work (closer to WC -> closer to Philly): Wayne, Admore, or Narberth. Each of these towns offers walk-to everything you need and are on busy train lines straight into the city. Some of the regional rail lines don't run frequently enough really to give you doorstep convenience to the city, but the Main Line does (SEPTA's Paoli-Thorndale Line). If you really want to conceed to your wife's city-dwelling need, consider the Manayunk section of the city (19127) or the Art Museum area. Sections of "Brewerytown" in North Philadelphia are up-and-coming, but it is still North Philadelphia... these options put some traffic-snarled areas into your daily drive. If you have kids or will soon, stay out if the city unless you want to pay private school tuition. Philly is awesome for many things, but public education isn't one of them (nothing against the teachers, it is just woefully underfunded).

It's a shame that nobody responded to the OP's post. I'll admit that I don't ever remember seeing it. I wonder if he is still on City Data and where he and his wife landed.
