Hi,

I'm getting ready to take the PA road test in Philly for the first time and have a question about the parallel parking part of the test. Is there a specific method you have to follow to parallel park and pass, or do you basically just have to get into the spot without hitting the uprights or curb?

Thanks,
Kelly

When I took the test it was just parking between two cones and up against a curb in the parking lot of the dmv. Just dont hit the curbs or the cones or the curb as you said and you should be ok. Also pay attention in the parking lot there will be stop signs that you must stop at as well.

good luck.

I believe that you also need to be parked between 6-12 inches from the curb. Any more or less is unacceptable.

So, if you've done everything correctly, but you're three inches from the curb, you'll fail?

Don't know if you'll fail, but they'll take points off.

Your answers would be found in the PA Drivers Handbook.

Don't hit anything, and try to be about 6 inches from the curb. My friend was further away (but the barrier-things extended further out in the street than her car), so she was able to argue her way into passing. The guy who gave me my test actually helped me park because the car I was driving was "kind of big" (supposedly Oxford & Levick is one of the easiest places to get your license).

If you move from out of state and have a license already, do they make you take a drivers test or just a written?

i got my drivers license today...i went in there confident as ever and i got it, i am so happy...i would like to thank everyone that posted something on this website, i remembered all the advice, and believe me it was invaluable...and if there were any of ya'll that prayed for me i appreciate that to...alot of reading and researching, practise, controlling my nerves and not letting my nerves control me, and God got me through this situation...to everyone who is yet to take the test or have already taken it and failed, do not loose heart and when you are taking the driving test, focus on the driving test alone, u will pass.
