Hi, I am looking for the name of the grocery store before it became an ACME in the early 2000's. It is now ACME and in the Park Ridge Center at the corner of W. Ridge Pike and Park in Trooper, at 2761 West Ridge Pike:

Parkridge Shopping Center

I came here in the summer of 2000 and believe it was a small grocery store called "Stop n Shop" or "Shop 'n Save". When I came back in 2001 or so it had become ACME I think. Was the old store part of a franchise, or independent?

Thanks!

Interesting. I was taking the train from Norristown back then, and drove by there twice a day. If I recall correctly, it was an ACME then, too.

Are you thinking of the old hardware store, which I think used to be called Grossman's? That was a little east on Ridge Pike, where the Dollar Store and an auto parts store are located. However, I thought Grossman's closed before then, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks, no, it was not Grossmans. Maybe I am wrong, but the name got me, as there was a chain called "Shop 'n Save" in Maine where I was moving from. I remember also going to the Genuardi's there in Audubon and then to Trooper. I was looking for housing and was fascinated by the area. I traveled each week to the area. PennDOT had it spelled "Audobon", btw, on one of their signs there. LOL. I went to the chinese buffet (now closed) in Park Ridge and King Buffet in the Plymouth Meeting Mall. Also used to like going to Odd Job and Big Lots in E. Norriton Twp.

I know the dollar store you mean too! They had this brand of anti-seize compound for automotive bolts for $1 a jar. I was shocked as it was $5-$20 at most automotive places in Maine. I promised myself to come back here once I moved to stock up on it, but by then it was gone. I also used to like going to the Eckerd and Walgreens a little ways up as you approached Collegeville.

Now I live in CA, but I really miss the area a lot. I lived in Lower Merion Twp. for a while then just outside of Collegeville, in Perkiomen Twp.

I used to pass it on my way to work in the 80's but I don't remember what was there either. I do know that I was VERY disappointed when Genuardi's sold out. I think the stores went downhill after that. As an aside, one of my grade-school friends married a Genuardi -- we thought that was like marrying a celebrity!
