Hi all!

I would like to hear people's opinions about their favorite restaurants and which ones they choose to avoid at all cost.

Philadelphia is a great restaurant city. We have such a variety to choose from.

I'll go first:

MIXTO. Pine Street. This attractive, popular place has never disappointed me. It's supposed to me a Cuban and Colombian fusion restaurant ... great Latin American flair. The best Mojitos in the city. I usually order the Skirt Steak Chimichurri or the Ropas Viejas. Even the Cuban sandwiches are terrific.

My favorite Chinese restaurant ever is "Square on Square" at 19th and Chestnut. I miss it.

Some of my favorite spots were New Deck, Mad Mex in U City.

Center City: Barbuzzo, Oyster House, Devils Alley, Fuel, Marathon (Rittenhouse), Delfriscos, Little Nonnas, Bud & Marilyns, Positano Coast, Zahav, Bistro Romano, Varga Bar, Valanni, Tria, Mercato, La Viola, Rouge, Devon, Parc, Fogo, Chima, and a decent Italian place next to Macys and Fogo, I forget the name. There are more in South Philly and NoLibs/Fishtown area too.

I never had an awful experience at any Philly restaurant, but Serafina was disappointing, tried it twice and was upset both times. And Continental Midtown was average overpriced food. I also tired Jones several times, the décor and staff were great, but the food was eh. I have noticed a lot of Starr restaurants have average food but awesome décor. A hit or miss I guess.

Philadelphia has an awesome food scene, that gets better every year.

My wife and I (gf at the time) had the bone marrow at Bibou back in 2013 or 2014, I don't remember - and it blew my mind! One of those tastes that you can remember and stands out above anything else you can think of. We are going back there next Friday (reserved a month ago). Too bad they don't do restaurant week.

We also love Nam Phuong and Gusto on 22nd by Locust. Indian Restaurant is also good, but hadn't been there in a while and we live right by Ekta now so yeah.

Just outside of Philly in Haddonfield is Sagami, which is a really really good sushi/Japanese place. Our Korean friends told us about it. When a Korean tells you a Japanese place is good, then it's legit lol

Noord (10th & Tasker): Tremendous food. Great service, excellent people, great location. It has never disappointed us.

Victor Cafe (13th & Dickinson): A long-running treasure for Italian food and opera. I love the food, the drinks, the price, the relatively new speakeasy upstairs and the singing.

Mustard Greens (2nd & Bainbridge): Seriously excellent Cantonese cuisine. Great place!

Royal Tavern (7th & Carpenter): Best burger in the city IMO. Great pub food all around.

Zahav (St. James Place): Some of the best food in the city. I'm blown away every single time I eat there.

Townsend (EPA): Best French food in the city (just ahead of Bibou, Will BYOB, and Laurel IMO). Unreal food and service. Great higher end destination.

Vedge (12th & Locust): Amazing food creations. Worth the money, both for the artistic display as well as the quality of the food.

Earth Bread & Brewery (Mt. Airy): Great place. Nothing super fancy, but good food and beer.

I will say I haven't had a BAD meal in a long time, although I'm pretty selective of where I'll go. Here are a few restaurants I don't feel are worth the money. They don't have bad food, but just ok food with an unjustified bill:

a.kitchen (Rittenhouse) - Decent food, but too expensive.

The Pickled Heron (Fishtown) - Again, decent food, but the bill was far too high, and that's without alcohol.

Serafina - I agree with cpomp. The food is ok...prices a bit high for the quality.

Aki (12th & Walnut) - Inconsistent freshness in the sushi. Will never return.

It's trendy, I know, but I've never been disappointed with the food at Cuba Libre on 2nd Street in Old City.

Vietnam Restaurant on 11th Street in Chinatown.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants is a little corner taqueria called El Jarocho in South Philly at 1138 S. 13th Street. On weekends they cook up some of the more complicated seafood dishes which are really worth trying. The every day tacos are always quite good and it's modestly priced.

I love El Jarocho!

Went to Perla tonight and it was excellent. It's Filipino food. Absolutely worth a revisit.

I am always checking out new places, but the repeats are usually Capital Grille, Barbuzzo, Ralphs and Mcgillians.

For Chinese food I can recommend Han Dynasty. I dined at the one on Market Street in University City about 10 days ago and forgot just how delicious it was. Many of the dishes are quite spicy, so you are warned. I always order the dumplings in hot chili oil as an appetizer ... they are so good!
