My husband got a job in Philadelphia and as a result we (=he + I + 3 young kids) will moving to the greater Philly area. We are looking to move to the mainline area mostly because of the high quality school districts. He will be working on the West side of the the city. Ideally the commute would be max 50 minutes or so. We really like some of the relatively large, newly build homes in areas such as Malvern and Wayne, but we are a bit unsure about the degree of community in these places. I do not necessarily need by neighbouts to becomes close friends, but some contact and a sense of community would be nice. Does anybody happen to have a suggestion for a place where there are both many large new homes as well as a nice sense of community?

You have to go further west for larger amounts of new construction. Malvern, Berwyn, Paoli areas.

Also, there are many other suburban communities that are just as/if not more desirable than the Main Line. Newtown Square, Media/Upper Providence have a good amount of new construction.

Glen Mills and Garnet Valley are probably the shiniest suburban communities around since 80% of them were built within the past 20 years. Commute time from all of these is under an hour.

All mentioned areas have tons of recreation and activities, excellent schools etc. Media and Wayne also have a walkable downtown.
