I think I am just about done with Panera Bread when it comes to food. They don't have good bread options and I was not able to enjoy the sandwich. Cosi's sandwiches are a lot better because of the bread they serve them on unlike Panera Bread. Still sad to see the Cosi's at 12th and Chestnut closed down because I was able to go there right after work. And I think the Cosi's on 18th and Market is closed by 5pm so that only leaves 4th and Chestnut or 30th Street. I can't understand why I enjoyed Panera so much in Conshohocken but since it's been on 12th and Arch the food doesn't taste as good.

What place do you prefer for Sandwiches?

Cosi I think though both are pretty solid. At Temple University in Philly where I go, Cosi actually takes meal swipes which are part of the meal plan so I go there quite a bit. And I agree with you that the bread is better, though Panera's is not bad.

Non-chain independent shops that generally have a stake in the local economy and community or Wawa which is a local.

Are Panera Bread franchises? That could explain differences in quality.

Neither because they are both terrible. I'll take Wawa or Primos any day of the week over those two.

Cosi is on the verge of going out of business so you might have to stick with Panera. I don't like either though, too much sodium, fat and chemicals.

I don't think I've ever even been to a Cosi or Panera in the city.

You're not missing a thing. It's hilarious to me that Panera is directly across the street from Reading Terminal Market.

Panera claims it serves "clean" food.

Philly has some neighborhood or independent places so maybe that's why the chain places are so limited.

There's a deli I like on the SE corner at 15th and Cherry. Technically it's 127 N. 15th Street. And I think it's called Green Village. They have a big salad bar, a hot bar, and they do burgers, made to order sandwiches, a huge beverage selection.

Here in DC we have a place I like a lot called Corner Bakery. I don't think there's one in Philly. But if you every see one anywhere try them.

Another place -- just in case they ever comes to Philly is -- for a true French patisserie -- is Paul (Bakery and Cafe). It's also excellent.

If you ever see one there also:
-- Potbelly (Sandwich Shop).
-- Zoup!

I know it won't do any good if you're on the other side of Broad Street, but aren't there some sandwich shops in the stretch of 15th to 18th and Market?? And near 16th and JFK? Sansom street must have some places, also.
