Is this really that big a loss for Center City? I would stop there after drinking when I used to drink Downtown and I would go there in the middle of the night when I worked third shift, but the food was just standard diner fare and the place was pretty much a dump, especially the bathroom (which was in the kitchen).
I remember the owner getting mad at me when I laughingly commented on the roaches running towards the door one night, like they were trying to escape ... It wasn't a good look.

There are fewer and fewer places of this type left in Center City - the greasy spoons where you can get something cheap and filling after the bars close.

With the closing of Little Pete's, the only such place I can think of within Center City now is the Midtown III. The Midtown II has closed.

There is an IHOP that serves until 2 a.m. weeknights and 24/7 Friday and Saturday, but that just isn't the same.

And yes, the Midtown II had its share of health department issues too.

I don't have any opinion on Little Pete's itself (being from the Jersey side we have our own diners) but Center City lacks for 24 hour food that isn't Wawa, right? So it's a loss in that sense.

While the food and service was, at best, okay, it was fine late night. I guess the closet 24/7 diner to there now is the City Diner at Broad and South.

Nice but pricey.

But it is the only game in town east of Broad.

Midtown III (18th below Market) is still 24/7, I think, and just as close to Little Pete's.

No, it's not. The one remaining in Fairmount is not that much better.

Do you remember the Savoy diner in the Gayborhood? Yeah, Midtown III is still around.

More Than Just Ice Cream is essentially a diner but it's not 24/7.

The Broad St Diner, at Broad and Ellsworth, was 24 hrs. Not sure if it is now.

Yes, I remember the Savoy; I even ate there on a few very late nights. The Midtown II inherited its business when it closed to make way for something else Jefferson wanted to see.

True on MTJIC's fundamental character. And it's not as pricey as the City Diner.

(I did go to the CD after a recent Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists monthly meeting along with my former inside-SEPTA source, now NBC10 reporter colleague Manuel McDonnell Smith and a mutual acquaintance who works at WURD; Manny usually gives us both a lift home, which means I get to go to our home area (Manny lives up the road from me in Mt. Airy) via Upper Darby. We usually stop for grub, and did so this time at the City Diner. This was the second place in Philadelphia where I've seen disco fries, North Jersey's answer to poutine, on the menu, and I ordered it (it was one of the appetizers but cost $8). I don't know what they did with the gravy, but the gravy on these fries was the driest I've ever encountered - no puddles, no drips, no evidence of liquidity past or present.)
