I got a job offer for 100k right next to Logan square.
I currently live in NOVA and hadn't considered leaving until I got this random offer. Now I'm seriously considering Philly. The DC/NOVA area I'm at now is a mecca for people my age, and I can't really tell if Philadelphia is a good place for young professionals like me. It is a slight pay increase from my current job and I know that Philadelphia is significantly cheaper than where I am now, so that's definitely a bonus.

Things that matter to me - Being able to walk around at night, being close to other young people, having access to nature, being able to walk to work. I'm looking to keep my rent at the $1500 mark.

Also - real estate. I'm hoping to buy my own condo after I live in the city for a year or two. Is the Philadelphia real estate market expanding? I know that in DC/NOVA the ship has pretty much sailed for small time would-be real estate moguls, but it doesn't seem like it's too late for Philadelphia as far as I can tell.

But yeah. The most important thing for me is access to other young people since I would be moving in knowing nobody at all. Really curious on how difficult it is to meet other people in this city.

-A dude that really doesn't know anything about Philadelphia

Absolutely. An advantage is that if you move to Center City, it's very compact and walkable. You will be able to walk to work, and when necessary, Uber/Lyft, or rent a car.

New condos are being built.

If you don't absolutely love NOVA, then I would move! Try it out for a few years, then decide if you want to settle in Philadelphia or go back. Its not like its far, and Philadelphia is a major city with arguably more going on then the DC/NOVA area, so it won't be a downgrade.

Do you know anyone in Philadelphia? That is always an advantage when moving to a new city.

You'll fit in well. Center City and the surrounding neighborhoods are packed full of millennials. The general vibe is lively, from hoppin' bars and restaurants to healthy food options and the like. I moved here 4 years ago (when I was 22) without knowing a soul and I have built a strong group of friends and business colleagues, my neighbors are friendly, and in general I haven't found it super hard to meet new people. There's always something going on in the city, not to mention if you work with cool people you can easily make friends through work.

Also, read any Philly Mag issue and you'll learn all about our red hot real estate market. It's only going up from here

Yes, move here. Your salary will be more than enough and lots of rental choices re budget. And, yes, the R/E market is still expanding.

Tons of young millennials are here who want/like what you are looking for.

Additionally, OP, look at the Curbed Philly site about rentals/RE.

Go for it! You're only young once, and you're certainly young enough that if you don't find Philly your cup of tea after a year or two, you've at least given it a shot. You'd also be able to live VERY comfortably on such a generous salary (not that Philly is exactly cheap, but as someone who's also lived in the DC area, Philly has a MUCH better value).

As others have said, you're definitely in good company for young folks. Much like DC, Philly has seen a substantial increase in young professionals in recent years. And few cities offer as compact/walkable an urban setting as Philly (even moreso than DC). Access to nature is quite similar to the DC area (in fact, arguably better, given that the Philly area has a fantastic abundance of protected open space).

The real estate market in Philly has also become more competitive in recent years for sure, much like most major metro areas across the US, but still not astronomically priced like DC. You're much more likely to still be able to get a "foot in the door" (literally) as a typical, middle-class earner in desirable neighborhoods.

Good luck!

100k 24? Move!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You probably will not go to dirty franks or Mcglincheys unless you wanna slum it with the hipsters. Society Hill restaurants and gastro pubs are probably more your style. The world will be your oyster.
