It goes against what Bezos believes and goes against what the ethos of the company is considered to be.

You could probably throw Indianapolis into that list as well, save for the fact that nobody realistically thinks they have a chance anyway. Nobody is taking them seriously, or Columbus or Miami for that matter.
PA does not have protections wrt lgbt rights but Philadelphia does. Don't know about Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh does as well. The fact that the state as a whole doesn't have these protections and the potential for that to sink major deals like this is yet another example of how the state government hamstrings the two economic engines of the state. Not to mention the obvious moral implications. Harrisburg really doesn't seem to get where their money comes from.

Seattle's been through that before.

Don't forget it was a company town before Microsoft shook things up - only that company was Boeing.

And when the commercial airliner industry went into a huge slump in the late 1970s, it hit Seattle hard. Someone even erected a billboard on a freeway there that read:

"Will the last person leaving Seattle please turn out the lights."

Boeing still makes its planes there, but corporate HQ moved to Chicago a few years back.

Looking ahead the Philadelphia region should do everything it can to prevent people like Mike Turzai from ever becoming governor. I read, in passing, that he might run. Eh....

Not surprising for the most part. This was an interesting note at the end:

Let’s be clear — this is a zero-sum game, and Amazon’s biggest PR initiative yet. The “winner” here may wake up with a hangover that includes budget cuts for schools and police as tax coffers erode based on the deal cut for Amazon.

as a stand alone that very well may be the case, you cant give away the farm

in a perfect justification (should one exist) if amazon is a net sum zero and generates other growth with a net gain overall it could be a net gain

I do feel a Philly selection may open up others to move things here and that could be beneficial

that said are the real chances like 10 or 5% anyway

Maybe better than the Eagles SB odds pre season ha

I watched that video when Fabiola circulated it among the staff.

I found Galloway's bluntness quite appealing, and frankly, I think he's right in his characterization of the "s**tshow circus" of cities "dropping their trousers" to court Amazon.

And I'm afraid his points about the relative profile of Philadelphia as opposed to DC, NYC and San Francisco is accurate.

But I don't think his statement about where Millennials want to live is all that accurate. It seems to me that if they could, they'd prefer not to cram themselves five to a two-bedroom apartment in a hip DC or NYC neighborhood. If indeed they all wanted to live in those places, how did Philadelphia end up with so damned many of them?

Which brings us back to that cost-of-living ace-in-the-hole.

If Bezos has a home in New York too, well, according to at least one propagandist, we've been a suburb of that city since at least 1839, and the faster Acela trains have made us a closer one now.

What kidphilly said about our odds vis-a-vis the Eagles' at the start of the season may be more prescient than any of us might imagine.
