The interest in the 76ers is partially being fueled by fantasy sports which, despite the controversy surrounding it, is still alive, well, and growing.

Rod Thorn and Tony Dileo were part of the old regime that had the Sixers stuck in eternal mediocrity.

They then brought Hinkie in to start a grass roots rebuild. Hinkie got a little carried away and took it to the extreme and he also wasnt very good with the media + fans. But he did what he was brought in to do ensure the Sixers got 4 or 5 elite young players.

Hinkie got whacked for 2 reasons. He Tanked too good and the NBA may have put pressure on Sixers owners to bring in legit NBA front office types- The Colangelos to gain legitimacy. The other reason was Hinkie just was not good with media + fans, a requirement for the job.

I remember the year of the Ben Simmons Tank. Sixers were trying to stay behind 4 or 5 other tanking teams. The Sixers were down 15 points but the Sixers scrubs on the court went on a crazy 12-0 run to almost take the lead. What happened? Sixers Coach Brett Brown called a timeout to end the Sixers run and the momentum. Sure enough the Sixers lost that game and ended up getting Ben Simmons who is going to be one of the great player in the NBA the next 15 years..

For 3 years the Sixers had nothing but 6 foot tall PG's from the D-league running there team. A surefire way to lose games.

As much as I'm excited about the process, I'm not a big fan of the Colangelos and don't trust their decision making. You don't give up TWO lottery picks for Markelle Fultz in any universe, especially if he's not gonna be your primary ball handler and double especially if you're giving up that lottery pick to a contending division rival. Also, the lack of transparency is appalling. Apparently Joel Embiid is not playing on Tuesday now for vague reasons and we all know about the Fultz debacle. The Okafor situation has been botched miserably as was the Noel one last year. Management could doom the Sixers again, just like it did in the early 2000s.
