I don't know if any one of have heard of the Torpedo Factory Arts Center near D.C. (in Old Town Alexandria, VA) -- or a place called Artists and Fleas in Brooklyn NY.

Or the Notes Arts Garage in Atlantic City -- where I haven't been but looks like what I'm asking about....a combination artists studios and shops in one building.

Are there any places like these in Philly?...where you can go and see artists working in various media, creating in their space -- and also buy various pieces.

I'm talking about where you can find dozens of artists and artisans -- and artwork from painting, ceramics, photography, and jewelry.....to stained glass, fiber, printmaking, and sculpture -- all in one location?

Torpedo Factory as more than 80 artists....Artists and Fleas has more than 100. Tourists visit but also locals.

Any place like this in Philly?

Thanks.

I think there is. Contact the Fabric Workshop. They might be able to tell you something.

This is the first thing that popped in my head. On a smaller scale in NW philly there s also the Mt. Airy Art Garage and I believe this is kind of what the "Lofts @ Kendrick Mill" are trying to become.

Scotts Mill - Artist Studios | East Falls Philadelphia, PA
In East Falls, Scotts Mill has this type of community. might not be quite the same as I think this is residential only. If there are things open to the public, let us know. Cause I'd sure as heck be interested!

When they first rented this space out like almost 10 years ago, I think they were going for $300/month. I doubt it's that price now, but who knows.

I checked out the Crane Arts center. But to be honest I couldn't figure out heads nor tails about what it is, how many artists are there, etc.

The places I used as examples have artists and artisans who do everything from jewelry making, woodworking and painting -- to photos on metal and mixed media sculpture.

I'm looking for a place to spend a long afternoon meeting the artists, being them work, and maybe find some unique pieces....a place that's more open artist studios than gallery. I din't think the city had what I'm looking for. But I thought I'd ask.
