I'm looking to get some advice on weekly rental rooms. It seems that Landlords do this because it's easier for the tenant to pay increments, instead of a huge lump sum. I've also read that weekly rentals are generally better for someone that is starting out because they are usually furnished, and because the initial fee to move in a far cheaper than a monthly agreement.

I've come across quite a few furnished rooms for rent on Craigslist that are $125 to $150 per week within Philly.

Should I be cautious about these scenarios?

What locations? Most 'weekly' rates/stays have been pushed to Airbnb. I have never heard of weekly rentals.

These are just 3 of the many other ads. The look promising.

Interesting. IMO I am always wary if there are no photos. There are ALOT of scams on Craigslist. I was looking to sublet my apartment, and had someone tell me that they had been scammed by a prior person, who he gave a deposit too, and then never heard from again.

With that. I am not sure of your familiarity of Philadelphia. The first listing is in Kensington, and their is a very very high rate of Heroin use in certain parts, so I am not sure of the relation to that with location.

The other 2 the location appears to be fine, but again I am not familiar.

The first and last listings def look like scams. I wouldn't look for a weekly rental through Craigslist, AirBnB is way more secure and suited to those types of rentals.

I've seen them advertised, but that seems pretty "low rent" to me. Who rents a room by the week? If I were in that situation, I'd prefer a month to month and ask the landlord if I could pay at least every couple of weeks.

Mom did that years ago for a tenant. I suggested it. The young woman landed her first job out of college and had no idea what a budget was, is. The check came later and later each month. I told mom to hit her up on pay day. It worked. Two payments a month worked for both of them.

It's almost surely a scam if the person won't meet you there in person to show you the place. Do not give a deposit unless you can personally vet the person and the place.
