It's been at the top of the list of towns that we might be interested in moving to. We've driven around the area a number of times now, gone shopping nearby, etc and it seems pretty nice. The schools seem OK - 6-8 rating out of 10 if I'm remembering right. Some areas seemed really nice, but I noticed a couple areas didn't seem as nice... and I feel like I've heard/read a couple things about it going downhill or not being great. Is it a town "on the decline"? Or is it a good spot still? I'm so confused and I don't know the area that well, nor do I know anyone who lives there. So any insight on the town in general, especially schools, would be appreciated!

The high school isn't good but there are good Catholic options nearby. Beyond that, it's a nice enough town. Plenty of shopping nearby. It's a little further out from the city, but not bad - about 40-45 minutes (with no traffic).

Not a bad area... Like you noticed there are some middle of the road areas.. I would go further south to Southampton..

It seems to lack character
. It could be anywhere. Many residential neighborhoods look raw and unfinished. These are visual observations so if it doesn’t bother you it shouldn’t make a difference.

I have to agree. The neighborhoods are often not proudly taken care of, and are almost "hick-ish" looking IMO. The area looks tired and beat. These are also visual observations.

Another nice option just up the road is Warrington.. Central Bucks schools and what some may consider nicer/newer neighborhoods.

Thanks for the responses! Glad to hear it's still a good area, we'll keep it on the list! We don't have kids yet but plan to once we move... so the school system is high on the list, but we've got a while til we're ready for high school.

And yes, love Warrington, but from what I've seen, can't afford anything

We moved to Warminster about 2 1/2 years ago, in the development blocked in by County Line/Street Rd/York/Norristown. There are definitely noticeable differences in income areas throughout the town, but there are many upgraded homes. Many homes in our development have gone up for sale recently, but they were mostly owned by older original owners.
Warminster closed one of their elementary schools last year, and all year my neighbor complained about the new one her son was moved to. Teachers are great, but support staff is very lacking. If you don't have kids yet, I wouldn't really worry- there's a pretty good chance they won't still be working there by the time your kids go.
And make sure you ask about flooding in any homes you look at, especially ones that look like the downstairs was recently renovated. Many homes throughout the township flooded during Irene.

Thank you Thank you Thank - helpful responses (well those that were lol)

Thanks for mentioning the flooding! I will definately keep that in mind. We want a basement but the increased storms and flooding makes me nervous.

And this Lacey Park area I think is the area I read before to avoid. hmm. We saw some really nice homes in our budget on the north end of Warminster & they ended up just missing the school district lines for Central Bucks system. Just nervous if there's this "bad area" if it's going to grow and affect the schools. I like the idea of plopping down for life, but I suppose by the time we're looking for middle/high schools if they've gone down, we can move.

The location is pretty fitting for us so still highly considering it. Any other thoughts, I'm still interested. Thanks!
