Heya CD,

I'm working on my itinerary for a visit to Pittsburgh. What would be the best/quickest/easiest way to get to Philly from Pittsburgh? Rent a car, public transit or just fly?

Driving is the fastest, then bus, then plane. In laws are from Philly, trust me drive. Flying would be too much of a pain for 300 miles

Thank you for the suggestion. Do you know how many toll roads one might encounter driving? Any advice? Can I get a temp toll tag? Not sure how it works.

I don't see how driving can be faster than flying, unless you live hours away from the airport on either end of the trip.

Get to airport: 30 minutes
Waste time at airport: 1 hour
Flying time: 90 minutes
Leave airport, get to destination: 1 hour

You can't drive from Pittsburgh to Philly in four hours.

Yes you can. I do it monthly. Plum, PA to Bensalem, PA is usually 4 to 4.5 hours at 80 mph

Sure, if you’re doing straight Turnpike driving from suburb to suburb and don’t have to contend with the Squirrel Hill Tunnel or Schuylkill Expressway.

City Center to City Center is closer to five, as I’m sure you know. However, the cost of airfare, the hassle of getting to and from both airports, and the fact that a car is very beneficial for getting around Pittsburgh weigh strongly in favor of driving.

Doesn't Amtrak's Pennsylvanian still run?

OP the train will bring you to Philly's 30th St Station which is right in the city sandwiched between Center and University Cities.

EZ Pass will save you about $11 in tolls. I've driven it in 5 hours many times.

Drive. My wife goes back and forth all the time, driving is easiest and most cost effective for her.
