The same three reckoning points are used in the western section of West Oak Lane as well.
The Northeast street grid is the city grid also. The difference in West Oak Lane and don't-you-dare-call-it-Cedarbrook is that the streets parallel to Cheltenham Avenue to its south are signed as north-south streets, as they are in Germantown Township, while Cheltenham Avenue itself is signed as an east-west street.

I should have described more clearly what I meant. Cheltenham Ave is the only street that traverses the physical street grids of the northwest and northeast parts of the city. Consequently Front Street is the only option for determining addresses on Cheltenham Ave. It’s the only street in the northwest part of city with that addressing scheme. That oddity is the reason that Upper EMA and portions of WOL are the only part of the city with three reckoning points for addresses as far as I know.

The area between Stenton Avenue and Cheltenham Avenue was part of Bristol Township pre-consolidation. Stenton Avenue was a boundary between Bristol and Germantown Borough/Township from Wister Street to Ivy Hill Road and from E Logan Street to Germantown Avenue. That’s why the addresses on Stenton are so weird. At the intersection of Haines and Stenton are the following: MLK on the SW corner is 6100 Stenton, the houses across the street on the NW corner are the 6900 block and the BP gas station on the NE corner is the in the 2200 block.

Yes, we were between Vernon and Gorgas. Those church bells used to wake me up on Sunday mornings. We were closer to Vernon, so they must have been really loud. I moved to Center City in 1973 and my parents sold the house around that time, so it's been a long time.
