Hello all....I am moving to Philly for a new career opportunity in Center City and came to visit this past weekend. While I am currently living in Florida, I am originally from New York so I am pretty familiar with the subway/LIRR system. However, I am confused about the trains in Philly, particularly coming from Wynnewood. I am looking at an apartment complex in Wynnewood that I really like, however it seems that the trains run every half hour even during rush hour. So if I miss the 7:15am train, do I actually need to wait a half hour for the 7:45am train?? I'm hoping I'm just missing something because I would think the trains would run a little closer together during rush hour. Is this correct? If so, are there other trains that run from close to the Wynnewood area to get into CC?

You looked at that right. If you miss the 715, you have to wait for the 745. Your only other options are bus (takes much longer of course) or possibly the Norristown high speed line and then the blue line (super cheap, but still a very long commute time).

You looked at it right. If you was a bit further up the line like Bryn Mawr, Paoli, Ardmore, or some others you probably would have it better options and trains to choose from because i believe further up there is a few express, limited trains and once most of them get to Ardmore or a bit before Ardmore they continue straight into the city. But your pretty situated in a good location. You aren't a long commute from the city ...probably the most is 30mins.

Yeah, the regional rail trains that go out to the burbs are not as frequent as the trolleys or the subway in the city. But they're still super convenient.

Don't worry, the 7:15 train won't actually get there until 10 or 15 minutes later anyway

Wynnewood is a great area, I would also consider the Ardmore station if you are looking to highly rely on the train. As another poster stated, this station does get express trains, so therefore there is some increased frequency. Ardmore is also highly walkable with alot of great development happening in its downtown area.

Yeah the one downfall when it comes to it's rail network is the frequency. It's a vast network, but with limit train cars and other Septa politics at play,you only see 2 or 3 trains per hour on each line, both directions.

Thanks so much! I’m also going to look in Ardmore, I’ve heard a lot of great things about it. I like the idea of living close to the city for work but still have more of a neighborhood feel on the weekends.

If you go to Ardmore, you could also use the Amtrak Keystone trains as a super express to 30th Street Station (with a free transfer to any SEPTA Regional Rail train to travel to Suburban Station or Market East/Jefferson Station using your Amtrak ticket). It does not appear there are any AM rush hour Amtrak trains from Ardmore that would work with your schedule, but some PM rush hour trains might work.
