I buy Norwegian Mackerel at Hmart (Elkins Park location only - the 69th St. location is too far and too dirty). The Mackerel is delicious! I buy it frozen and then clean and prep it myself at home (I season the fish with herbs, shaved lemongrass, lime leaves and then steam the fish in hisbiscus flower-infused tea water-----ooooh so juicy and tender, lol).

I buy Smoked Salmon and Argentinian Wild Shrimp from the Sam's Club in Willow Grove. Very delicious!

A friend told me superior fish is sold at Captain Andy's in Wyndmoor. I plan to visit his store soon, as he is reputed to be an official fishmonger.

Can you recommend any other places in or around Philly with great quality seafood, particularly Chilean Sea Bass and Swordfish?

Please don't include Chinatown. Too many of their stores have poor quality fish. And, I've gotten sick in the past from fish purchased from the Reading Terminal Market!

If you mention "Italian/Mexican" market, please specify the name of the fish store, as I haven't been down in that part of South Philly in years!

Thanks!

South Philly- store at 5th and Washington has a seafood dept. similar to Hmart in Cheltenham.
Assi has a seafood department up in/toward North Wales.
Hill's Seafood might have some of the stuff you're looking for too- I've seen those in Delaware county.

There's a poster from the Raleigh board who posts on the food and drink board. She swears by the Norwegian salmon at Lidl.

You didn't say which vendor in the Reading Terminal Market, but I've always found the fish at John Yi's to be excellent.

When I used to visit John Yi's at Reading Terminal, they would always let me smell the fish before purchasing. I used to get Chilean sea bass there. Pretty nice people there.

No, it was the OTHER fish market closer to the 12th and Filbert entrance where I encountered bad fish.

I "Googled" Lidl. The only one close to Philly is on MacDade Blvd. in Folsom, PA.

Has anyone been to this German-based store? Is Lidl any better than Mom's Organic Market, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Aldi, ShopRite, Weis, Fresh Grocer, Giant, and Wegman's? (I just listed all the markets I frequent.)

Then, why don't you go back to John Yi's?
