DC is 3:15 or 3 am I believe, seems like a sensible time. Baltimore is even earlier, it would seem. technically Philly bars can serve until 2 am and have people in them until 2:30 am. It's a matter of policy if they kick you out sooner (they want to go home) AFAIK. Boston's night life scene makes Philly look like NYC. Chicago also has 2am /4 am bars, anotehr nice compromise. NYC used to be 24 hours.

Philly is the most exciting and vibrant place I have lived besides NY itself and I have lived in plenty of places. It is a very fast paced lifestyle. If you are only concerned about how late bars close, well that is very sad. However the medical community here is also one of the finest in the US and they can probably help with your problem.

Baltimore and DC are both 2am.

Miami, Tampa, AC and NYC are the only east coast cities with regular bar closings past 2am.

Atlanta has a special 4am zone in the heart of downtown but everywhere else it's 2:30. AC is, of course, 24 hours and Miami has a special 24 hour district but outside of that it's 5am.

Towns like Seaside Heights and Wildwood also have 4am last calls but they're not exactly big cities.

I have 1 thing to say for this Thread - it should have stayed Buried in 2008. It lacks any coherent posting trail to a conclusive agreement/rebuttal, so I'll offer one. The originator of this fabrication should be awarded the City-Data Academy Award for starting a zero credibility flame baiting thread, which has lasted for 1.5 years - and maybe even longer. IMO, Let this non-information thread R.I.P.

btw, that link has a list of all the closing by state and city. It would be nice if the state let Philly and Pitt, at least, have later closing times to compete with DC and NY (and for Pitt, Buffalo (4 am) and Cleveland/Columbus (2:30 am). Chciago's is interesting

Chicago - Some bars may choose to close at 2 a.m. or earlier. They may alternately get an extension which allows them to close at 4 a.m. or earlier. On Saturdays, closing times are shifted an hour back to 3 and 5 a.m
these things are important for attracting young people and in a big city not everyone is on the same schedule. I'd argue it does little to discourage consumption, people just pound beers before close. look at england, they had early closing times and people were pissed very early.

Now that I think of it... don't some bars and clubs here receive a limited amount of licenses/waivers to stay open until 4:00 or 5:00am during the summer?

Yeah, there are a few "after hours" places. There's one in my neighborhood that closes at 4:30am. I know because I was there for last call once.

It's really seedy, though.
