We are the parents of preschool and elementary age kids, and are looking to relocate to an area with better schools and a few more with our religious background -- so, somewhere in Philly suburbs. We are coming from about an hour north.
It seems as though the Main Line is the best bet at this point, as we really want this move to stick.
Priorities:
1) Great public schools
2) Strong Jewish population (including shuls and preschool)
3) Near 476 or thereabouts, will need to commute north
4) Friendly
We are huge nature lovers, and outdoorsy, friendly folks. We'd honestly love to have chickens and some space, but understand that we may need to compromise on that now, so that our kids can have nearby friends.
Are there areas anyone would suggest that would meet these criteria? Radnor township perhaps? We have been trying to learn more about the Main Line, but still need some guidance. Thank you!

Would be happy to get something in the 800K range or less. Could go up to 1M for a really ideal place, but prefer not. Thank you for any thoughts.
We're just trying to figure out whether Radnor township is the right area to be looking -- and if there are differences among elementary schools, if so. Perhaps Bryn Mawr? We did also see options in Villanova.
We'd probably be looking at Wynnewood area, but it would make an already long commute north more difficult.
Lower Merion Township is really your best bet in terms of large Jewish population. Depending on where you are in the township, it really shouldn't take that much time to get to the Upper Darby/Broomall entrance of 476.
Thanks, I think we were going to try for the next entrance north, those extra minutes I think will add up. Of course it is going to depend what is on the market. It seems as though any of the schools in Lower Merion are excellent. Will we find a Jewish population in Radnor Township or Villanova as well, or will we always be having to drive to Lower Merion??
Bala Cynwyd is the center for the larger Jewish community in Philadelphia, although not the only place. If you want to be close to the greatest number of Jewish schools and shuls/synagogues and resources, then stay reasonably close to Bala Cynwyd. This includes Merion Station, Wynnewood, Penn Valley, Ardmore, Narberth. Radnor/Wayne are not that far away as the crow flies but traffic congestion is a real factor.
There are plenty of Jewish families all up and down the Main Line.
Thank you, good to know. Being right by Bala Cynwyd would increase our drive at least 20 minutes each way, but it sounds as though we should find Jewish families in Bryn Mawr, Radnor or Villanova. We are not terribly religious, just mainstream conservative, and just tired of our kids being the only Jews in the classroom and will need peers as bar mitzvah age approaches. (We don't even need it to be tons of other Jews in the classroom, just a few and some other cultures, so teachers are not confused when the kids are out for the holidays and can't write letters to Santa.) Wayne sounds nice, but I believe some commented in another thread on this forum that there are few Jews there.
Even though we really prefer more rural, this is the only move that appears to make sense at this point, with our stage of life and priorities for the kids.
We love PA and are not considering NJ at this point, but thank you. I do know an Orthodox family who recently moved to Cherry Hill.
If anyone has preschool recommendations, we would love to hear.

That's why I said what I said.
