Montgomery County is threatening to shut down its 60 mile trail network for lack of social distancing.

Not sure how much of that is from households being together and how much is non-households. FWIW, the only clusters I'm seeing look very much like families and couples.

I don't really care what the government says is ok to reopen. No way I'm going back to normal any time soon, aside from what is safe/possible with regard to my work. But I won't be hanging out in Rittenhouse with coworkers, eating lunch prepared from Justsalad (for example) in six weeks. Anyone expecting to go back to normal with good results is going to be in for a rude awakening. That's JMO.
Personally, this is the time of year that I start to make trips to NYC 3-4 times a month on through the summer/fall. No way I'm going there before next year. And that's incredible for me since I've been going to NY regularly for years and years.

I'm with you 100%. I don't care what the government says. I sure as heck do not care what Trump says about "opening".

Even in Wuhan, there is ongoing uncertainty with reopening things and they performed a shut down much more holistically/effectively.

I don't know how to go about it to be honest. I just don't see any kind of normalcy for a long time because the virus is in circulation. The other challenge is that the economy isn't going to take off right away. I have zero plans with buying unnecessary items (expensive meals, clothing, electronics, etc.) until I see where the economy is headed, which probably takes us into 2021 at the earliest. I don't know if others feel the same, but I imagine that's the case given the unemployment numbers...and I'm not even unemployed.
I agree with you. Plus ignore what the Dow is doing right now since it does not reflect reality.

Apparently, the White House is now looking at Philadelphia as an upcoming hot spot. When you look at the rise in known cases it's easy to see why. Even the surrounding counties are growing in confirming cases by leaps and bounds.

No chance I will pull back on social distancing anytime soon.

Yet the cities health commish is saying we are close to being flattened out. Should also be noted the testing sites at the ballpark and Temple Ambler Campus are being shut down tommorrow.

I understand that's because the Federal funding for them has run out.

IMO it's way too early to be cutting back on testing. Ideally — and to prepare for the future — we should be testing everyone, symptomatic or not. We won't get there for a good long while, granted, but we should continue in that direction.

I was surprised to see Philly testing centers closing down. I mean, wow. Testing everyone would be a huge expense and difficult logistically. And if you test negative and then come into contact with it 10 mins later, you've just given someone a false sense of security.

Testing will probably switch to testing for antibodies to identify who has NOT yet had it and recovered, but that is probably a ways off. The best bet is to stay home if you are not too sick and stay in quarantine. Let it run its course unless it becomes severe or if you have a pre-existing condition that puts you at a higher level of risk.

Sounds like the wage tax won't apply to suburban residents working from home during the shelter-in-place. Wow.

Quote:
The closing of offices amid the coronavirus pandemic may bring a bit of relief to some of the thousands of workers who live outside of Philadelphia but commute to jobs in the city: A break from the city’s highest-in-the-nation wage tax.
Philadelphia-area residents who are now working from their dining-room tables or home offices are likely eligible to stop paying the tax or apply for refunds later. As long as companies are requiring employees to work from home, they are exempt from the 3.4481% nonresident tax. (People who live in the city, no matter where they work, must always pay the 3.8712% resident wage tax.)
