Can I get a home for 250k in a decent neighborhood in Philly? I am not concerned about schools. I just need it to be semi safe and have 2-3 bedrooms. I am thinking about transferring to Philly from upstate NY and want to live in the city.

That is good. How much do places go for in the surrounding areas of center city such as northern liberties?

Your best bet is to go to phillyblog.com, click on the "ask a Philly friend" thread. Go to the thread entitled, Where Should I live FAQ thread. Cut and paste the questions into a new thread with your answers. That should get you responses. I'm not sure if I explained it clearly, but once you go there you will see what I mean. Good luck!

Wow!!!!!!! A quarter million? Let me check what kind of upscale house thatll get a rich person with a huge budget:

http://homepics.realtor.com/image3/http/trend/listings/large/079/4790767.jpg (broken link)
5 Bed, 2 Bath
2,688 Sq. Ft.

6 Bed, 2.5 Bath
2,133 Sq. Ft.

If you prefer not to spend all your $250k budget and still want something nice, theres 600+ houses for under $50k and 2000+ for $50k to $100k Dont ask me about neighboorhoods, I have no idea. I only know theres good deals to be had and those $250k houses may be in really upscale neighboorhoods.

$100,000
5 Bed, 4 Bath
2,550 Sq. Ft.

I dont see anything wrong with that house and its much cheaper.

Okay, I'm absolutely shocked that's all you get for 250k in Philadelphia!

Move to Pittsburgh! You'll get more for your money!
