We would like to go and explore some of the towns/ areas of the Mainline.

Does anyone have some suggestions on the best places to go? Maybe somewhere nice to have lunch?

We would like to see some of the lovely countryside and some of the older, charming towns.

Any tips?

TIA!

The town of Wayne might be your best bet for lunch. Nudy's is on Conestoga Road, a great spot for brunch/lunch. Silver Spoon is on lancaster Ave right behind South Moon Under. Merediths in Berwyn is excellent but there are 100 or so places to grab lunch along Lancaster Ave from Haverford out to the end of the Mainline, most are excellent.

If you want to explore the area of big mansions I'd ride around Gladwyne,Penn Valley,Villanova,Radnor, the northern half of Bryn Mawr. Ride down Montgomery Ave and make a right at Mill Creek Rd.,Old Gulph Rd., or Spring Mill Rd. and cruise around

For scenery I always like taking the back roads from Villanova to West Chester, Very pastural. Do a mapquest search and explore the areas of East Goshen,Whitehorse,Sugartown,Willistown,Edgmont. Rt 252 to Rt 352 between Rt3 and Rt 30 is just outstanding. This area leads you towards West Chester which I would suggest checking out as well. WC is kind of reminiscent of the blocks of Pine, Spruce,+Locust Streets and (sorry Philly) but instead of being surrrounded by Point Breeze, camden,Kingsessing you are surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Eventually if you find the time you should take in Valley Forge and the Brandywine Valley(Chadds Ford-Pocopson).Everyone raves about the Bucks County countryside and its tremendous but imo Chester County is a hidden treasure.

Good luck

Thanks so much - this has given us a really good place to start! I have been marking everything off on the map and we'll see how we get on.

Thanks again - really appreciate it.
