Philly back in the 1980s.

Place is even grittier than the Bronx

Was Kensington an Irish/Polish neighborhood back then?

When my grandparents first moved to 15th and Locust from Melrose Park (around that time), there were sex workers on that stretch of Broad Street.

Nah they just using an abandoned and demolished lot, that is probably worth millions, but the developers are sitting on until FED lowers rates. That is all that is. Not all of NYC is like that nor the Bronx back then.

Port Richmond is the well known Polish neighborhood. Kensington did have a lot of Irish back in the 80's. Only thing I can remember about Kensington from that era, was the night club the "AD".

I assume you are aware of Kensington in 2021? World famous as the "open air drug market"? Quite an interesting place to take a ride up the avenue.

The Bronx is rocking these days. Love "Little Italy". Amazing restaurants, and the market that resembles Philly's "Reading Mkt".

Ehh, no--and not really even close. Bronx 1980s is the epitome of urban decay. 'The Bronx is Burning" many buildings were set fire intentionally for insurance-- there was never a huge element of that in Philly --since we are a "city of homes" not apartment buildings.

But yeah Kensington was an Irish neighborhood with Polish (although they were more in Port Richmond/Bridesburg) and also Puerto Rican --Front Street divided the two groups. There was a notorious Irish gang out of Kensington I read about in a book "Second Story Men"--and they would go up and down the East Coast from Miami to Maine targeting wealthy and prominent homes for robberies.

Little Italy, Fordham. Have several friends living in Morris Park. Nice diverse neighborhood.
