I had a steak with American cheese and onions. The sandwich was very big and the seeded roll was good. I had to add salt and pepper since the meat seemed to not be seasoned at all (can’t remember the last time I had to add s+p to a cheese steak). The meat/cheese/bread ratio was good. The meat was chopped so small it was bordering on ground beef. The meat itself tasted very much like the frozen steaks they use at the standard pizza joint. I believe Cleavers uses fresh steak but the flavor just didn’t come through. At the higher echelon places that use fresh steak (even Pat’s and Geno’s), you can taste that distinct steak fat flavor so it tastes like steak and not hamburger. In any case, no reason to go back since to me, it was a standard pizza place steak that is bigger with a slightly better roll.
well tell me what steak place you consider better than cleavers so I can go tomorrow

If you are going to get a chicken steak, then I have no recommendations (I don't eat them myself). For cow steaks, off the top of my head, I like Steve's, Philip's, Tony Luke's, Jonh's Roast Pork, and even Geno's and Pat's much better.

My favorite chicken cheesesteak places are Bally’s right on N. Mascher and Amigos Pizza on Cottman. Both use Amaroso rolls, however, Amigos has an uneven amount of chicken compared to roll which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Ishkabibble's on South Street used to have a great chicken cheesesteak, but I haven't had one in years.

Gooie Louie’s has long been my go-to cheesesteak. Definitely the most meat I’ve gotten in a steak.

Never been but it's on my list. I'm a quality over quantity guy but good is good regardless.

They are pretty good, just wish they were open a little later.

You need to visit Max's sometime.

They have a second location at Five Points in the Northeast, closer to you.

One of their cheesesteaks will feed you for two meals.
