Hi all, I am from Philly and am considering using a hotel when coming up for my next visit. I usually stay with friends or relatives but it's getting to be a hassle -- they all have stairs, which are difficult for me, and are usually either too cold or too hot, etc. I'd like a hotel not in Center City or involving a lot of walking, not super-expensive but definitely modern, clean and with some luxury touches (nothing worse than arriving in a hotel that's depressing like when I stayed at the Days Inn in Center City for the Super Bowl parade). Delaware County or Montgomery County preferred. I've looked at the hotel websites but sometimes it's hard to tell what they're really like (see Days Inn above). Any ideas, let me know -- thanks!

Consider the Residence Inn in Bala Cynwyd. I haven't been but the following article mentions an aesthetically pleasing development to which the hotel is adjacent.

There's the new Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott in Broomall. It's right off of West Chester Pike and Lawrence Road. There's also the Courtyard by Marriott at the Springfield Country Club and the Holiday Inn and Suites in Drexel Hill. Delaware County has come a long way since having just that one fleabag on City Ave., the Summit Motor Inn.

I was going to say, what you are describing sounds like a Marriot Courtyard, and they are all over the area.

Oh yes, how I remember passing that Summit Inn. Lovely, haha. The Courtyard at Springfield CC sounds ideal, I don't think they had a hotel back when I was going there for dances and the occasional wedding (20 years ago). Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Nope, they did not. It's a relatively new(er) happening. The hotel really completed things for the country club, because wedding guests and parties can now stay right on site as opposed to driving somewhere else.

PS - Summit Motor Inn is still there. Unbelievable.

The hotel is about 5 years old at the most. The cuisine at the hotel restaurant has attempted an improvement near the time of the hotel opening up as well. You might also have to sign a waiver that you could risk getting hit by a golf ball, but it is not a concern I'd have staying there. Anything is possible though.
