Depending on where ya go, some will make a payment plan. They did that for my grandfather when he passed. They split the payments up and my mother and her sisters and brother paid so much a month.

you can also give the body up for science...ex: med schools for anatomy lab and then at the end the bodies are cremated and the ashes are given back to you...they usually have a little service at the end as well...

Sorry about the loss of your loved one. Cremation is expensive now a days so I have to agree with doubledownmom by donating the body to science. Actually, that is my mothers wish if she were to pass on. She has plenty of insurance but that is just the way she wants it. Contact some medical schools or see who will give you a payment plan. I don't know of may funeral directors willing to do that in this day and age but it never hurts to ask.

The least expensive cremation I could find for a distant relative a few years ago was $700.00. His ashs were buried at the family plot but that isn't a must, they can be kept in a container and buried years later when you have the money or scattered somewhere the person liked. You can have your own service with or without a "party" and it doesn't have to cost much. Guests can bring food. Expensive funerals with all the trimmings are a rip off, same as expensive weddings.
