She loves Philly. She lives in Astoria and says that queens is worlds more safe than Philly. Or at least that's how it seems to her. Granted, she was also mugged at gun-point in her first week so maybe she's a bit jaded.
The homeless situation definitely got worse after Kenney became mayor, at least in terms of them loitering about center city. Also, open air drug became far worse after they effectively decriminalized marijuana. But the most noticeable change, as you said, is the lack of a visible police presence, which is quite intentional. Kenney, Krasner, and those who vote for them, pander to the lowest elements of society, and the results have been dramatic . . . and devastating, with the murder rate more than doubling under Kenney's "leadership".

How is your daughters mugging in North Philly relevant to center city’s recovery?

It's not at all. It's relevant to her feeling of security in the city.

Are you fvcking kidding?

Her feeling safe in the entire city is irrelevant to a business report on center city. appreciate the red herring though

I wonder if panhandlers hanging outside of retail businesses, begging for a tip when they open the door for you, has any impact on business activity in center city? Or perhaps the constant stench of marijuana when walking about Walnut or Chestnut Street?

I’m going to venture to say “yes”, and I’m not against the use of marijuana. However, I don’t want to feel like I’m shopping around homeless and intoxicated/drug users. I’m not sure how others feel, but I don’t particularly feel safe in that type of environment. Especially when people can see me walking around with bags that have newly purchased goods in them.

Can you imagine going into the city to purchase an expensive watch at this point? Who’d want to walk out of that store with the new watch and see four poorly behaved teens walking your way? This is why KOP continues to thrive.

I don't know what the answer is, but it's completely out of control in Philly and across the U.S. I do think guns are a major issue however. If 50% of these nut-jobs didn't have access to a gun, we'd be dealing with maybe one random stabbing (maybe). Too many guns all over the place in this country.

Ironically, those that quote the 2nd amendment fail to do much research. Even the founding fathers of this country explicitly stated that laws should be fluid over the course of time. Meaning, we should re-evaluate laws and protocol on a consistent basis. I would be very surprised if any of the individuals that actually authored the amendments would support our current gun laws.

These were rhetorical questions. He was just being a d-bag for some reason.

Another treat is when you're taking SEPTA, and some toker, reeking of weed, steps aboard. They're not actually smoking on the train, but their clothes are saturated with the vile scent. The wretched stench of gonj permeates the entire train car, to the point where your eyes start to burn. No doubt this helps to attract shoppers, diners, and office workers back into the city. I mean, who doesn't enjoy getting high off dope on the train?
