We will be visiting next week and looking for possible relocation areas. I have done most of my research on Exton, KOP, Chester, West Chester areas due to the fact that I have children in school. I am wondering how long it takes to get to NYC from those areas either via train or car. My hubby will not be commuting as his office will be out of the house. Just wondering for trips into the city how long it takes and if you need to make a weekend of it or can just go for the day.

On a good day, it will take 2 hours to get to NYC from any of those western suburbs. I'd bet it would be more than three if you traveled during rush hour or Friday nights.

Exton and Chester are the only towns of your choices that have a train station. From Exton, you would have to come into the city and switch trains to go back out again. As for Chester, it does not fit with the mid-to-upper-class environment you will find with your other considerations; if you're thinking about Exton, you won't like Chester.

As far the merits of the other towns, I'll leave that to other members to expound on. I can say that all of them are solid communities. If you love shopping, then you will enjoy the nirvana that is the King of Prussia Court and Plaza, the 2nd largest mall complex in the US.

Oc may be referring to Chester Springs. Its about 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive to NYC.There are a couple routes to take. Pa Turnpike to NJ turnpike is the most direct route.I'd highly recommend the scenic route(albeit longer) take 476 up to the Poconos Mts and take I-80 into NYC

In regards to taking the train. As Tone said you would need to catch a Septa train in Exton or Downingtown to Center City Philly and then transfer to Amtrak up to Manhattan. Probably a 2 hour ordeal.

Good luck
