Take someting to read. It will be a long day of sitting and waiting.

When questioned by the prosecution and defense, tell them you think the DA's office is corrupt.

You'll still spend the day there, but you won't get picked for a trial.

Won't work in a civil case

Not necessarily true. I've been picked three times.

I am an exempt employee of a firm that is domisciled in New York with a Branch offcie in Pennsylvania. I received a questionaire entitiled "Juror Qualification Questionaire" for the U.S. Distric Court Eastern Distric of Pennsylvania. Allow me to make sure that everyone understands that I have no problem serving. However, my employer will charge me for a full day's pay for any day that I miss. If I am called to serve and have no vacation of personal time left I will be docked for the entire day. I read the rules on line and it would appear that an employer can do this? Is this correct and if so do I have any recourse. I can't afford to loose potnetially one day yet alone several days of pay for doing my civic duty.

One other issue. Even though I am an exempt employee I am treated as non-exempt. For example, If I misss an hour to go to a doctor I am charged for that one hour. However, if I work after hours there is no compensation (either salary or comp time).

Rather than 30th St Station, you are better off getting off the train at Suburban Station (or 13th st if you are on the El). The courthouse is close to there.
Make sure you go to the address it says to report to on whatever you were sent in the mail.

Also, GoogleMaps is your friend. It's a much better resource than City-Data for directions.

I have two thoughts. First I work on commission and literally will take a huge financial loss if I ended up serving on a multiday trial.

Secondly, regarding my civic duty. I used to believe in this concept but not any longer. When Mitt Romney, Paris Hilton, Warren Buffet and Kim Kardashian start paying the same effective tax rates I do, then you can give me the civic duty card. Until then, that concept is nothing but meaningless drivel to me.

How will you get to 30th St (Amtrac, Elevated, Septa regional rail,
bus) and what is the address you have to report to?
