We're looking to move in somewhere commutable between Wilmington, DE and Cherry Hill, NJ - is there areas you would recommend? (or areas to stay away from)
We're looking for a quiet, safe, affordable neighborhood, with some things to do. Nice condos/Townhomes/Single Families- We're hoping to spend 200-260K - and don't mind a fixer upper in a nicer area!
Also, are the property taxes really that much higher then DE/PA? Whats the diff. in the cost of living in these areas?
Your best bet might be something in lower Gloucester County, NJ. You could check out areas like Swedesboro or Mullica Hill. Anywhere close to Rt. 322 & Rt. 295 which will take you north to Cherry Hill and South to the Delaware Memorial Bridge to get into Delaware.
We appreciate any suggestions or leads to
buy a home in the Wilmington, DE area.
We are newlyweds and my husband
works at Widener U. in DE.
Thanks for your help.
I would not recommend DE unless you grew up in the south - everything is a bit slower and just different there...
I would recommend Delaware County PA, Delco to us locals.
Buy as far out from the city limits as you can afford. If you don't have kids, it doesn't really matter which area you move to for the schools although your property will appreciate faster if you buy in a good district.
Better Districts:
Wallingford-Swarthmore (Nether Providence)
Garnet Valley (Glen Mills, Bethel)
Unionville Chadds Ford
Rose Tree Media
Haverford (Havertown)
Springfield
Penn Delco (Parkside, Brookhaven)
OK Districts:
Ridley
Interboro
Great Location, Nice Affordable Houses, bad sections, bad schools, high taxes, may be in decline or may be getting better, no guarantee:
Upper Darby
William Penn (Lansdowne)
