Hello!
My husband and I are looking for a beautiful rivertown on the east coast near a graduate school that I may attend. We would like a city that can get us away from our cramped and treeless urban environment while still providing a rich cultural life. Can you recommend a charming town near the water that has a community feel, the arts, an educated population, and a main street or town center?
Thanks from South Philly

I'd recommend posting this on the main US board rather than on the forum of the cramped and treeless environment you would like to flee.

Wow... Does somebody needs a hug? No need to be offended. We love Philadelphia. We were born here. But we can only afford a "cramped and treeless" street and a dark rowhouse with a cement backyard. The greener neighborhoods are beautiful, but out of our price range. Kelly Drive and most of Fairmount Park are a good 30 minute drive for us. For this reason, I was hoping for some advice about a town with just as much to offer as Philadelphia, with easier access to nature on our limited income.

How about Collingswood, NJ? (If you tell us the grad school, it would help).

Riverton, NJ is a really quaint riverside down with a cute main street, older charming homes and a train that runs right to Camden where you can attend Rutgers University which has a graduate school. You can also transfer to the PATCO highspeedline in Camden to go into Philly.

Riverton puts you close to any of the Philly schools via the River Line / Patco.

My friend lived in Riverton and attended Drexel.
