Ive been to Philly a couple of times from North Jersey and Im sure this is probably jsut my North JErsey/ New York mind set but is there any nightlife in Philly at all? It seems like the city just shuts down at 8 pm. I dont know maybe i wasnt in the right places.

During the week it can get pretty quite, but I would check around the first few blocks of Chestnut Street (i.e., the one's nearest the Delaware River), and South Street (obviously). But there are other places scattered around. I hardly go out any more, so I don't know in detail, but I think you will definite find things active around 2nd & Chestnut (and within that immediate area). There are also a lot of clubs along Delaware Avenue.

Winters can be a little slow in Philly as it is in every town including NYC. Come spring and summer center city is hopping especially From Thur-Sat. Old City( reminiscent to Bourbon Street), Spring Garden, South Street,Northern Liberties, Manayunk and center City(extended Rittenhouse area) is really beginning to take off.

Philly 9 months out of the year is very vibrant, kind of goes into hibernation during the winters though.

philly has a great nightlife. south street is one of the most vibrant streets in philadelphia. there is so much to do on just that one street. nightclubs are scattered all over philadelphia, you just have to look a little harder. old city knows how to entertain their guests. if you want to go to a strip club, i can't even stomach the site of them, but if you want to go to one there are a couple in south philly on the way to the new ikea. have fun, yukk!

As others have said, there is nightlife going on in Philly. In fact, you could find something to do virtually every night. Unlike NYC perhaps, most bars and nightclubs close at 2am. Some establishments do apply for an limited after-hours license which they take advantage of during the summer. Check out the nightlife section on www.philadelphiaweekly.com and www.citypaper.net for information on what's going on.
