Thank you all for your feedback. She will be visiting next month and will be looking for places to live, as well as checking out the economic status of Philly. Like for example if her job were to lay her off would she be up the creek or could she find employment within a reasonable time... which is becoming harder and harder in any part of the country. If she can survive Chicago's 10% tax and high unemployment rate then I am sure she will do fine in Philly. I will update you on her decision.

As with a lot of metros, it may be easier for her to find a job out in the 'burbs than the city proper. Then again, it depends on her profession. Center City certainly isn't a ghost town during the day.

Chicago to Philadelphia is better than Chicago to Kansas City. Chicago and Philadelphia are on a similar level.
