I'm in an interracial relationship and have never had a problem in Philly! That even sounds crazy! This is not the deep south, And as far as where to live, center city is nice and south phillt is cool too. This is a city of neighborhoods, I suggest you go explore some...

From the South, living in philly for 10 years in CC. also in IR marriage for 10 years. Philadelphia is no different than the south, there is tolerance but people dont seem very open and IR couples willl get stared at in many places. in south philadlephia 2 years ago, an IR couple had a cross burned on their law, so its not the deep south, it is equal or worse than it in some places.

remember according the Hate Crimes Watch orgs, Pa and NJ are in the top 5 places where hate crimes and racist groups are-and not in the middle of the state but in the Southeastern area, Philly and south and central jersey

Yeah, but many are holed up in outer Bucks and Chester Cos. Philadelphians are ignorant and hostile in general, so it may not be specifically a "race" issue.

If a typical inner city young african american wearing an oversized white t-shirt and droopy jeans walks into CC well he's not going to be welcomed by anyone.Whites, blacks, asians, arabs, and east indians are going to avoid and ignore this person.

The problem isn't white/black imo . Its urban black youth vs. everyone else.

for many professionals of color it is a problem too, many in the majority culture still do not think we are equal, so for IR couples we still get stares of disbelief, anger and hatred. wearing a business suit, which i do daily doesnt protect me. Its is a class issue too, as Philly is really a class divided city and a race divided city as well.

and many are holed up in the city, port richmond, the northeast, northern liberties, southwest and south philadelphia, etc. and it happened in the city not the suburbs. the racism in right in downtown and doesnt come from southern rednecks, rednecks and racists live right in the city.

to the other poster, yes we work daily to get over it, but doesnt mean it doesnt keep happening-so thats why the thread is here to talk about it. Not get over it--i know it is in Manhattan too, McSorleys is just one--though i have had good times there.

I would like to thank everyone so much for helping me to not make a huge mistake in moving to Philadelphia in hopes of finding interracial love. Thank you all so much.
