If you get a chance go out and visit the western states. It's absolutely beautiful out there.

Lol, Just what we need a wiseguy from Pigpen Pa. busting on Philly. One block of Pine Street has more character than your entire 500 sq mile Berks County.
I agree! We can both be proud of our crime statistics! (Berks County is a leader in domestic violence, btw.)

And as far as character is concerned, nothing has more character than "any block of Pine." Once I have treated the mule team to supper at Reading Terminal, I head straight for "any block of Pine." (Actually, even the mules love chewing on "any block of Pine" or Spruce or even Walnut and Chestnut!)

Please don't make center city out to be some kind of haven. My girlfriend who lived either on locust or pine...I forget which one now as she moved, had bars on her windows, hookers living directly across the street from her, another set of hookers on her corner...AND my friend was also mugged down there, and on another time had her car stolen.

Then, a very good friend of mine was mugged and BEATEN and in the hospital for over a week.

You traveling here? Look into travel agencies and tourist websites for info.

Center City and Historic Core (Independence Mall) are the heart and soul of Philly tourism.

There's a documentary on YouTube called "Law And Disorder In Philadelphia" by Louis Theroux that does a great job in showing what the crime is like in a lot of sections in Philly and why it happens, here's the link:

And about 90 percent of them are drug related. To a tourist, it's a non-issue.

More than 9 in 10 violent crimes in Philadelphia can be classified as non-random...meaning the perpetrator and victim have some kind of connection. In other words...get over it, be aware of your surroundings when clomping down dark streets at 2AM and just live your life to the fullest...
