As with most larger cities in the US, there will be some high-crime areas but it's least likely in Center City - our downtown area - or other places where visitors are likely to travel.

I would recommend tripadvisor.com for more advice on tourist attractions in the city.

downtown philly and the historic areas are safe areas, especially in the daytime hours. If you run around town late at night or go looking for drugs you will find yourself in dangerous areas. Stay out of north philly and west philly.

There is crime in the city but it is concentrated in specific lower socio economic areas. The historic, museum, park, downtown living areas are absolutely safe. Theres tens of thousands of people walking the streets most of the day. its rare to have crime in center city, unheard of during daylight areas.

I have never once felt unsafe in center city Philadelphia.

We are ALWAYS looking for new victims, I mean visitors! BTW, crime is high in center city, too, not usually murder, but purse snatching and other so-called petty crimes. Obviously the thieves go where the tourists are, so there are plenty in center city.

If you want good BBQ, then you might have to go to N. Philly (gasp!) or good S.E. Asian food in W. Philly (gasp! gasp!) If you just stay in center city Philly, you might as well just watch the travel channels at home :<)

You might want to consider cultivating some pen pals in the Philly area that will take you to all of the city's neighborhoods, not just the tourist traps.
Take in a concert at Temple University in NORTH PHILLY. Go to the University of Pennsylvania in WEST PHILLY and visit the museum or take in a concert. Philly has all types of music, art and culture at your fingertips!!

Have fun on your trip!

I agree with most. Philly has a lot of very nice areas for you to enjoy.

The Zoo is very nice, center city has a lot of interesting buildings. I think that you should be aware of your sorroundings at all times.

But I am sure you will enjoy it if you come. This city has a lot of history.

Its 9:26 PM your goat is getting antsy.

Lol, Just what we need a wiseguy from Pigpen Pa. busting on Philly. One block of Pine Street has more character than your entire 500 sq mile Berks County.
