You didn't say how much you wanted to spend in rent, but 2400 Chestnut Street or The Left Bank are close to 30th Street. You can also look in center city in the Rittenhouse Square area and either walk to 30th Street, take the train from 17th and Market (one stop to 30th Street) or the 9 bus.

The immediate area around 30th St Sta is very barren and no one lives there for some reason and you wouldn't want to live there even if there was somplace, which there isn't. It is safe however, just very commercial and institutional neighbors. As newmarlig said those two buildings are the closest. Also 2121 Market st and the Murano condo next door aren't too far.
