My son who is 5 has just been recently diagnosed with AS. We live in Phila county and is currently attending Pre-K. He'll be in Kindergarden next year at the same day care he is in now (it's a licensed program). Then in a year and a half, he'll officially start elemantary school. DH and I want to move to Montgomery County and are looking for the best public schools in the area that would accomodate children with this condition? What are some of those? Upper Merion, Langhorne, Pottstown? Please help if you know... thank you -

Lower Merion School District is generally excellent for most things. However, I probably wouldn't trust info I received on this board from me or anyone else who doesn't have particular experience or special knowledge, and would defer to the recommendations and referrals from his doctors and therapists, other Asperger's parents or even posters on Autism-specific boards. Good luck.

Yeah, I'd think LMSD too. I know that there are programs for students with disabilities at BCMS and LMHS.

Even in the best school district, though, I'd also start asking around for names of good education lawyers.

I would suggest joining ASCEND and getting on their Yahoo group. Also, TalkASAPhilly, which has a number of members in the suburbs.
