Atlantic City - the strip bars are fewer and ok but the nightlife food etc is awesome. If Philly I would stay by city hall - there's a Marriott, Loews, Ritz Carlton right there and you could cab it to pretty much anywhere you want.

If you want more clubby digs, the Days Inn? on Columbus/Delaware Ave is right there, across the street is Dave and Buster's and there are clubs and nudie bars galore...

Manayunk would be a stop with plenty of bars and eating options.

Same with South Street.

What type of weekend are you trying to achieve? The "rent an atrocious white stretch hummer from Ali Baba, have it drive you to Old City, get out and go to bars and act like fools and get in fights with 22 year olds from New Jesey, followed by annoying drunkenness at Jim's, Pat's or Geno's at 3 am" type of weekend, or the "really good steak dinner and absolute avoidance of anything remotely cheesy and tacky"?

Where you stay and what restaurants you select are entirely dependent on you and your friends' budgets.

we want to stay someplace kinda in the middle of everything if possible, watching distance to bars and such. $200 a night is fine for the hotel

"In the middle of everything" is fairly non-descript since Center City Philadelphia is quite compact. I'm also not sure what "watching" distance is, but if you stay in a hotel described as Rittenhouse Square, Old City, "Historic Area" or Society Hill, you will be within a 2-5 minute walk of probably 10-20 bars in each location. I personally find the hotels around the Convention Center/Chinatown to be less desirable (and less convenient to a critical mass of bars), but even this location would only be

a 10 minute walk or quick cab ride to Old City, South Street, Northern Liberties or Rittenhouse Square.
