My husband’s job is moving us to Philly; I know nothing of the city. We are average working class couple with one small child (so schools are important) we only make roughly $75,000per year. What area’s (if any) of the city(or suburbs) can we afford to live, buy a home and raise our child, without going broke? We prefer a more racially diverse area (a nice even mix of black and white) but we are also aware that beggars can’t be choosers. Please any areas and info on those areas would be great!!!

only you know how much you can afford...

we don't know if you have any savings or anything...

maybe what you can afford is something you should discuss with a financial counselor and a loan officer first...

Where in Philly will your husband be working?

Delaware County is a pretty good choice if the commute works - places like Springfield, Ridley Park, Havertown and Media come to mind.

If you are closer to Bucks County, try to get somewhere in the Central Bucks school district.

If you don't mind Jersey, there is more newer housing close to Philly in places like Swedesboro.

If you are looking for racially diverse, the city neighborhoods will be your best bet: Germantown, University City, Mt. Airy, come to mind. A lot will depend on where you husband needs to travel to for work.
Most suburbs, while good options to live, will not be as racially diverse as the city.

Why did you post that exact same post in the Chicago forum at the same time you posted it here? Clearly you're not moving to both cities at the same time.

Are you doing some research study or something?
