Gary Papa died today at 2:57 p.m. from prostate cancer. Those of us who watch Channel 6 have followed him and his bout with cancer for a long time. He was a brave man and a real professional, and someone who loved his job broadcasting sports. He fought the good fight until the end.

Very well stated, SMXGirl. Gary definately loved his job and Philadelphia. All the years watching him I never felt that he was just doing his time here waiting for a call from a bigger market like Chicago or New York. No stupid comments, no insults, never the impression that he felt that he was bigger then the story that he reported. A true gentleman and a class act. Sadly missed.

It's a shame to hear about this. Him and Harry Kalas in the same year too. Philadelphia sportscasting has lost some good men in 2009.
