Summer time is here. Baseball season is in full swing, it's hot and humid, and everyone needs an ice cold treat. A summer in Philadelphia wouldn't be a summer in Philadelphia without one of the country's most underrated sweet treats to help you cool off. Where are the best places for Water Ice around the city?

The Philadelphia Water Ice Factory, of course. Although I'm partial to a mango gelati from Rita's.

I think Rita's ice is really good and you can find Rita's all over the region.

My very favorite ice of all is Polish Water Ice which, as far as I know, you can only get on the boardwalks at the shore (but I could be wrong).

Isn't water ice kind of redundant?

Ice is water.

When I came to Philadelphia I was confused as to why everyone was calling it "Water Ice".

Famous Italian Ices at Emerald & Lehigh in the city's Kensington section. 48 flavors of the best Italian Ice have had people coming from as far as Jersey (at least when I lived in the area).
They also used to have Slush (don't know if they still do; just two flavors available from their slush machine) and their slush (kinda like the 711 Slurpees) was pretty much what I got when I tried a Rita's water ice! The Rita's was liquid in a matter of moments on a hot day just like the ol' Slushes were Just water, syrup & some fruit bits in there, not true Italian (Water) Ice, IMO.

I was truly spoiled when I lived near Famous, thus cannot even eat a Rita's.
