Hi everyone,

Just moved to Philadelphia. Just wanted to get folks' opinion on whether satelite or cable makes the most sense in center city. I'm assuming Comcast has a relative monopoly on the cable side. I'm a huge sports fan....so I'm assuming Comcast has more of the local college athletics on CSN, local type channels.

On that same subject....who are the best high speed internet providers?

Comcast just had a screaming deal on phone-tv-internet triple play. If it's still available, I'd go with that. It's a 2 year lock in but if you like Philly sports, Comcast is probably your best bet.

If you like other cities' sports, maybe Dish Network.

For high speed internet the only choices are Comcast, Verizon Fios (if available where you live) or RCN (if available where you live). Again because of the great triple play package, Comcast wins for now.

If you want the most HD and best DVR, Dish Network is a very good choice and I have had it for 2 years and really enjoyed it. But their rates have crept up, they don't offer high speed internet just 3rd party DSL so I would have to pay their higher rates for tv plus Comcast's rates for internet plus Verizon or Comcat for phone. Yet again the triple play package wins.

Hopefully you are eligible and it is still available. It seems you can link through other sites for deals so search for comcast triple play and see what you get.

Comcast is a blood-sucking leech of a utility with high rates, right up there with PGW, the gas company. DirectTV has a bundle deal with Verizon, involving DirectTV service and Verizon Phone and Internet service. I pay $101 a month for all three.

Comcast is the absolute worst. If your cable/internet serivce goes down, don't expect it to be fixed for a few days. yes days! but if you are a day late with your payment. they shut off cable services immediately. awful customer service too. they don't care because they have a monopoly here. We're thinking of switching to the Dish or at least can't wait for FIOS.
