I have been offered a great job working in Atlantic City, NJ. I am very reluctant to accept because of the area. It seems there are some nice areas to live around there, beach towns and other areas outside of Atlantic City, however I am 28 and single and really want to be near people my own age. I currently work in Washington, DC and grew up in the suburbs. Is it realistic to live in Philadelphia and commute to AC everyday? I will be making six figures so money is not an issue. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

It's certainly do-able, especially since it's a reverse commute, but wouldn't be much fun 5 days a week. You might be better off on the Jersey side of the river but still close to Philly, but it would still be a long commute.

You're looking at 2.5 hours of commuting a day, minimum. If you're bent on having a social life, the commute will definitely cut into it. If you're working a 9-5 job (and at 6 figures I'd guess closer to 8-6 minimum) you have to be out of the house by 7:30AM and you won't be home before 6:30PM, at best. Most likely it'd be something like wake up at 5:30, out at 6:30, home at 7:30, bed by 10:30-11.

I currently do a commute + similar hours and it's super draining. They call it the grind for a reason, I guess!

I'd probably live as close to Old City as possible, just so you can easily jump on the AC Expressway with minimal drive time.
