Thank you so much everyone, for all the suggestions! I always feel so overwhelmed when I go to the market and most of the time, I just end up buying a chocolate chip cookie at that fantastic cookie place (1 cookie has so many calories, it equals a lunch!)

I love the cookies; I hate that they cost a billion dollars each!

Personally I would skip the cheessesteaks and eat at that diner in the market (I think it's called Old Town/Time Diner or something like that). It's owned by some celebrity chef...the food is soooo good! Everytime I go there I can't help but to order the grilled cheese sandwich. It's not your typical diner...it's really good!

I agree! The last time I was there, I think I paid about $3 for a cookie! But MAN are they good!!!

Down Home Diner used to be great, but the last two times I was there it sucked. (After it sucked the first time, I decided to give it another chance - but never again - unless I hear vast improvements have been made).

is the Down Home Diner open later for dinner, or just breakfast and lunch?

If it is sandwich you desire than there is no place like DiNics (Reading Terminal Market › Merchants). The best roast pork or brisket sandwich you can find. Worth ignoring the cheesesteak for one of these babies. Runner up would be Hershel's East Side.

Wow! That's too bad. I have been there only 3x...the last time was when the Philadelphia Flower Show was in town (end of March...can't remember).

I am not sure if it is open for dinner. I have only been there during the day.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread Sassy.

Shanny

I think the cookies at LeBus are as good as those from Famous 4th St and about half the price. I discovered them recently when I had a craving for a cookie but didn't want to take out a second mortgage (and the women at 4th St can be surly at times which I resent). I spotted the cookies in a case at Le Bus, tried one, and came away a happy man. Craving satisfied, less guilt.

Thanks for that tip! Next time I am there, I will try a cookie from LeBus.

I know what you mean about the servers at the cookie place. They aren't the friendliest people on earth.
