I'm transferring with my current employer to a HR position that is located in Wilkes Barre. I have NOT heard good things about Wilke Barre. Therefore I'm considering commuting to work and living in another city. I'm a single mother of a 11 year old and want a safe area with good schools. Is there a City in between WB and Philly that would be a good place to live with some diversity?

Philly is a two+ hour drive to Wilkes Barre. That is when the weather is good, and when there is no construction. And some of the construction projects last years (Lehigh River Bridge near Lehighton, for example).

There are plenty of safe small towns around Wilkes-Barre. I grew up in the Wilkes-Barre area (Pittston specifically), and I would pick ANY area up there versus any of the areas around Philly, and I live in one of the safer, nicer Philly burbs (Exton).

If you haven't found it already, I would strongly suggest checking out the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre forum on here. I predict you will be pleasantly surprised at your options. As already stated, there is definitely not a convenient midpoint between the two areas.
