NYC single female looking for a neighborhood in Philly (Washington: home, transfer to)

Agreed - moving outside the city saves you A LOT of money on car insurance...I saved over 50% when I left the city ($830 a month to $350 or so on a 6 month policy)

Something to consider is that I-95 looks like a nice option but the fact remains that it is due for some serious rebuilding in the next 5 years...lots of construction will limit the roadway and make it backed up at all times...in fact, right now there is almost always a back-up getting off @ Cottman Ave because they are re-doing the road and ramps in that area.

But what if I find a place with a parking facility? I know the rent would be more than 1,400/- but at this point I'd rather pay a little more for rent than have to hunt for parking and live in perpetual fear of having my car broken into.
THe reason is that my employer just notified me of a change in my work location from NE philly to South Christopher Columbus Blvd (!!!!!)which I guess is SOuth Philly so CCity looks to be the most reasonable option unless anyone can suggest anything better...

OK, so the latest is that theres been a change in my work location from NE philly to South Christopher Columbus Blvd 19148 (aaarrgh!). So is this at all commutable from center city/old city using Public transport (bus/train) or is driving a car on the 1-95 the more feasible option. And would Queen village bring me any closer to this new work location

Columbus Blvd is a fairly long road - accessible from Center City (and up to Fishtown/Northern Liberies) all the way down to Pattison Ave in South Philly (Where the stadiums are).

Depending on where you are, you might be able to walk it - but there is a bus that runs down it (25 route I think) that should get you to where you are going.

Columbus Blvd used to be called Delaware Ave (it was renamed in 1992 to celebrate Columbus' 500th anniversary of the 1st voyage) - don't be surprised to hear many locals still call it Delaware or Del Ave.

Queen Village would be a GREAT option for you. And you are much better off working on CC Blvd. than in the northeast. Do you know the exact address. That would help regarding which bus goes there, but you will be very close (maybe even walking distance - depending on where you live) (Zip code 19148 is south of Queen Village, so you may also want to look in Pennsport.

i live in QV. i like it. its got a yuppie/hipster vibe..and of course, you have south street. i don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

This is served by the following bus routes:
7, 25, 29, 64

That area is just outside of an area called "Pennsport"...just south of Queens Village.
It is between Washington and Snyder Aves.

So if i were to live in QV approx how long would it take me by bus to 1851 S CC blvd. I'm trying to decide wether it would make a significant difference between living in QV vs. Pennsport vs. Center City. Because it seems like the further one goes south of Center City, the quieter (ie shadier?) the streets get and being a single female who would be walking home alone everyday, I'm trying to be around as lively a place as I can help.
