Does anyone know of any free parking near chestnut street in university city? Preferably near 36th and Chestnut?

Also, if there are residential streets, up until what area should I not enter based on the shadyness of the area? I don't want to take the risk and park somewhere dangerous/unsafe?

Does it get really shady after let's say 42nd and chestnut? 43? 44? 45? etc.

Thanks!

You take a risk anywhere in the city no matter what.
You have to read the signs, but there is never any parking that is always free. It is hard to get. You are better off with a parking spot or PhillyCarShare or ZipCar if you plan on using metered or temporary spots regularly.

Basically I could probably say you're safer between Baltimore Ave. and Lancaster Ave., including Baltimore Ave.

35th Street between Baring and Spring Garden always seems to have a space or two available and is quite safe to park in. Surrounded by students and respectable families, well-lit, and close to the university. And a few short blocks north of Chestnut.

I wouldn't park anywhere west of 38th or north of Spring Garden.

Well as safe as it can get. Usually stuff happens even in Univ City, usually at the wee hours after 11 PM- about 5 AM or so.
