I plan to visit Philly soon and want to know where I can get the BEST Philly cheesesteaks! Not just where the tourists go! I want to know about both the Cheez Whiz and the non-Cheez Whiz kind.

Please help by also telling me where your favorite cheesesteak places are located because I am not familiar with Philly geography (streets, cross-streets and nearest landmarks, for example). Preferably in a reasonably safe neighborhood.

Umm I like this little place at Susquehanna and Memphis in Fishtown. The place doesn't even have a name on the outside. Just a sign that says Hersey Chocolate. I think the guy is Polish. Yum!

I second John's Roast pork. Probably the best steak there is, no frills, just the best meaty steak there is. Know exactly what you want when he asks for your order. It's best to go before 2pm as they close early at this joint. If you can't make it before then try Tony Lukes just down the street on Oregon underneath the freeway, well at least that's where the parking is.

Oh, John's only does provolone, no whiz. Trust me, it's better that way.

Geno's = tourist trap with long line

If you want real Philly, go to Abner's at 38th and Chestnut or Steve the Prince at Bustleton and St. Vincent
