It may depend on where you live and where you work. If you live and work in center city, definitely.

I love the freedom of living without the expense of a car. I live in University City, another pedestrian-friendly neighborhood with good public transportation links to most anywhere I need to go in the city.

Yes it's very possible, I live and work in center city and currently able to save a lot of money. Where I live I'm surrounded by cabs, regional rail trains, buses, and subways.

I lived here for 4 years and got along ok. Then I got a car and realized what I was missing. It is like having a maid or a country club or a summer house. Life is better with it if you can afford it. If you can't you will be ok too.

what areas of philly are best recommended for me then?

Heres the list of what I need:
1. Safe
2. Able to not have a car (I just hate them, cant wait to get rid of mine)
a. lots of public transport
b. stuff thats walking distance
3. Affordable
4. Lots of stuff going on 24/7 (Everything in Wilkes Barre closes at 9, and I cant STAND IT)

big plus if theres a good school close by, or at least has some easy public transport to it.

I dont know anything about philly. I only really ever been in china town by the trocedero, so if you can elaborate a bit more that would be great. Ive actually spent more "quality time" with NYC than I have Philly.

Please define what affordable is to you. That's a very vague term. And by good school, do you mean a college?

That area would be Center City, you will be surrounded by cabs, trains, buses, and subways on top of everything being in walking distance.
